Merit 0.5 G Granular Insecticide
Merit 0.5 G Granular Insecticide
Merit 0.5 G Granules are manufactured by Bayer and formulated with the active ingredient imidacloprid. Merit 0.5 G Granules seep into the soil and work systemically through the root system of vegetation to kill insects on ornamental trees and plants. The active ingredient of Imidacloprid in Merit 0.5 G Granules disrupts the nervous system of the insect, causing the bug to cease feeding or reproducing before eventually dying.
Merit 0.5 G Granules provide a long residual effect that lasts for up to 3 months while also being safe and easy to apply. Use Merit 0.5 G Granules on residential and commercial lawns to effectively control chinch bugs, mole crickets, grub worms and more.
Tools Needed
To apply Merit Granules, you will need a handheld spreader or push spreader to broadcast the granules.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Merit Granules you will need to apply to the treatment area by calculating the square footage. You can do this by measuring the length and width of your yard, then multiplying those numbers together (length x width = square footage). The rate to apply Merit 0.5 G ranges from 1.4 to 1.8 lb. per 1,000 sq. ft. So for example, if you calculated a 2,500 sq. ft. yard to treat, you will need 3.5 to 4.5 lbs. of Merit 0.5 G.
- Step 2: Load the appropriate amount of Merit 0.5 G Granules to your spreader. Follow the label for spreader settings and make adjustments based on your spreader model. Carefully calibrate your spreader as rates will vary depending on speed, equipment wear and the age of your spreader.
- Step 3: Push the spreader at a steady pace walking around the perimeter and move towards the middle. We suggest overlapping the pattern by 1 to 2 feet to ensure complete coverage.
- Step 4: Water or irrigate treated areas within 24 hours after applying the granules. This ensures the granules soak into the soil for maximum results.
Where to Use
Merit 0.5 G Insecticide is ideal for use on residential and commercial turfs, lawns, ornamental gardens, golf courses, parks, sports fields, and other outdoor landscaped areas except for commercial sod farms. Do not spread Merit Granules in areas that are flooded or over-saturated as this will prevent penetration to the root system.
When to Use
Merit 0.5 G Granules can be applied anytime label listed insect activity is seen on turfs, lawns, ornamental trees and bushes. The best time to apply Merit Granules is before or during the insect egg laying and hatching periods. More than 80 pounds of Merit Granules cannot be applied on an acre per year. We suggest applying Merit Granules within 24 hours of rainfall for maximum results.
Safety Information
Merit 0.5 G Granules are safe to apply around pets and children when applied according to the product label. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when spreading Merit Granules. To prevent wildlife animals such as birds from seeing the granules as food, make sure the granules are evenly distributed.
Special Considerations
Merit 0.5 G Insecticide Granules work by penetrating the soil to soak through the root system of grasses, trees, and plants. This means it requires rain, watering or some form of irrigation for maximum benefits.

Q:When is the best time to apply Merit granules to kill stink bugs on my shrubs & trees in central North Carolina ?3/21/24A:Merit will not control stink bugs. Stink bugs are most active from March to September so we recommend applying a residual insecticide on a quarterly schedule to control this pest. To kill and repel stink bugs from your shrubs and trees use Supreme IT at a rate of 1.0 fl. oz. in 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. or 5.4 - 43.5 fl. oz. of product per 100 gallons of water. https://www.solutionsstores.com/reclaim-it-insecticide

Q:Why do I have so many june bugs even though I applied merit at the suggested time?7/9/22A:Unfortunately, this is hard to answer without knowing your application process or site. It does state on the product label if application is not made prior to egg hatch or when adults or large nymphs are present and actively tunneling, apply Merit 0.5G Insecticide in combination with a remedial insecticide to minimize damage to turf. As well as irrigating treated areas at least within 24 hours of application to push the active ingredient through the ground. We recommend irrigating treated areas with Dominion 2L as this will help control larvae underneath the dirt and adults. This product is also considered a remedial insecticide as it will eliminate and repel pests for up to 3 months. https://www.solutionsstores.com/dominion-2l-insecticide
