When you multitask, you can get a lot done in a fraction of time that you would if you worked on tasks individually. Multitasking is productive for us humans, but it’s even more convenient and satisfying when a product we use takes care of more than one problem at once for us. When it comes to treating moldy or infested wood and the destructive termites which love to eat that wood, a product like Bora-care takes care of all those issues with their special solution. That is why we here at Solutions Pest and Lawn highly recommend this product so you could eliminate multiple problems with one stone, Bora-care.

Boracare is a multi-functioning formula: it is a concentrated termiticide, insecticide and fungicide which means it doesn’t just target termites, it can eliminate other pesky insects like carpenter ants and beetles as well as various forms of decay, mold and fungi. Talk about an all-in-one solution!

Boracare contains the active ingredient DOT (disodium octaborate tetrahydrate) which is a borate-based mineral salt that is safe to use and is as harmless as table salt. Once this solution seeps into unfinished wood, it remains there forever, providing long-time protection. The way it eliminates termites is by suffocating or choking out the termites after they pass through treated areas and pick up or eat the poison. Once consumed, the boric acid disrupts their bodily functions. Termites and other wood destroying beetles and carpenter ants starve to death due to their ingestion being compromised. It sounds gruesome, but hey, they’re messing up your home.

It is important to note that Boracare will not work on finished product, meaning it cannot be applied to wood that is painted, stained, or otherwise finished unless they are first stripped. Bora-care is best used on raw wood like plywood, particle board or wood structural components.

Boracare can also be used to prevent subterranean termites from forming tunnels on surfaces such as concrete, block, brick, metals and PVC plumbing pipes found in structures.

Application Tips

      • Depending on the size of the job, Boracare can be used at a 1:1 or 1:5 ratio. Please refer to the product label for correct usage rate for your specific needs.

  • Boracare should be mixed with hot water in a bucket until it is thoroughly dispersed in the water. Bora-care should never be mixed directly in sprayers as the product is very thick and will clog the prayer if it is not premixed with hot water. Boracare can be applied as a spray using a hand pump sprayer, as a foam using a foamer and a foaming additive and it can be painted on with a roller when needed.

  • Indoors, Bora-care can be applied on infested wood, wooden elements of furniture, wood flooring and stud walls. Apply Bora-care until surfaces are saturated but not to the point where there is runoff. Use Boracare in a well-ventilated area or use a respirator during application in a confined area like an attic or crawl spaces.

  • Outdoors, you can apply Bora-care to all raw wooden elements like fence posts, decks and new wooden siding. Do not apply within 48 hours of rain or snow. All exposed wood needs to be sealed six weeks for Bora-care to perform optimally.
