Buying and using your own pest control products is becoming more popular as people realize they can purchase the same products that professional pest control technicians use but charge you an arm and a leg for using them. What will make you an effective DIY pest controller is using the products exactly as stated in the directions. What is not effective, yet many DIYers do this, is to use more than directed, falsely believing that more is better. This is not true; some products you buy are designed to be taken back to nesting areas, while other products are designed to work at a slowly on the pest. Another reason to carefully read all labeling on the products is for your family’s safety. Children and pets tend to roam, so be careful to read the label to know where that chemical, or product, can be used and whether pets and kids need to be away from the area for a few hours, if at all. Products today are made with safety in mind; that being said, some sprays need to dry completely for it to be safe around humans and pets. Do Your Research If you dig even further and investigate what species your pests are, you can go to your favorite online DIY pest control store to gain useful tips on how to prevent an infestation and keep them away from your home. Case in point, ants. Everyone has ants, but not everyone knows what kind of ants they have. If you have carpenter ants, they are wood boring and will be harder to treat than the common sugar ant. Their treatments will be completely different. Use the Internet and Learn Something! It pays to know your insects and with the click of a mouse, you can pull up pictures of any ants or other insects that are bugging you. Once you have correctly identified your pest, you can correctly treat your infestation all by your lonesome. Research pays off not only for your pocketbook but you will be the smartest guy on the block! How’s that for doing some research?
