Summertime Is Coming And So Are The Mosquitoes! Why A Fogger Is A Summertime Must Have For Your Outdoor Activities!

Bug Lady posted this on Oct 8, 2016

Summertime is just around the corner and with it comes all of the summertime outdoor events and activities. And also the mosquitoes! Mosquitoes can ruin a summertime backyard BBQ or evening on the patio in no time at all. This year try something different, try a fogger for summertime mosquito control.

Mosquito Facts

Mosquito FoggerMosquitoes are found nearly everywhere in the world, with the exception of Antarctica and a few islands (such as Iceland) where the cold weather hinders their life cycles. So the rest of the world is stuck with them. They are considered biting flying insects, but not all of them bite, and the ones that do aren’t actually “biting”. Of the species that feed on the blood of other living creatures, only the female mosquitoes suck blood. They do this with a piercing sucking mouthpart-much like a sharp-tipped straw that they jab into the skin of their victim. So it’s not really a “bite” but rather a “stab”. This “bite” is not what causes the discomfort, by the way, it is their saliva and it’s anti coagulant chemicals that you react to with redness, itching and swelling. Most mosquito bites are simply bothersome, but some mosquitoes are vectors of disease in humans. Some of these are:

  • Malaria
  • Yellow Fever
  • Filariasis
  • West Nile Virus

So it becomes obvious why control of these pests in important for you and your family.

Types Of Control

Summer is the most popular time for outdoor fun and leisure. We have backyard parties and BBQs. We throw weddings and holiday soirees in backyards and parks. We do our outdoor yardwork, we camp out and spend days on the water fishing. We are often accompanied by mosquitoes looking for a meal. There are many things we can do to reduce the numbers of biting insects around our activities. A good first move is to eliminate any sources of standing water. Most mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water and then live out the first several stages of their lifecycles there. Some of these may be:

  • Neglected kiddie pools
  • Bird baths
  • Buckets, flowerpots, etc.
  • Tires on property filled with fetid water

Mosquito FoggerPonds and lakes near your property obviously cannot be removed. Other forms of control can be helpful here. Repellants can be used in the forms of candles, sprays and creams used on the skin. But mosquitoes can just fly around these and bite you anywhere you missed with the spray or cream. This is where a mosquito fogger can really help. Foggers work by spraying a fine mist of insect poison over a specified area. it remains airborne for a short while and then settles on surfaces. It will kill the mosquitoes resting and flying in these areas. They can be used indoors and outdoors. The fogging usually last for several hours, so they can be used before events and you can be mosquito free for hours afterwards. Perfect for campsites and outdoor work, just spray a few hours before peak time and enjoy yourself. Be aware when using a fogger that they are insect killers and can kill beneficial insects as well, so refrain from using them in areas where bees and butterflies and other pollinators frequent, if possible. Also, follow the directions carefully when using in households with children and pets. If a mosquito fogger sounds like it would be ideal for you this summer, ePest solutions has a fogger for you! We carry several kinds and also the insecticides used in them. Give us a call and let us know what your concerns and needs are and we will help you choose the perfect mosquito fogger for your summertime comfort!
