Identification and Control Recommendations for Pink Hibiscus Mealybug

Camille Landry posted this on Aug 3, 2017

Recently, a technician from Chem-Tech, reached out to one of our Insect experts for help in identifying a pest that was found on a hibiscus plant. Originally thought to be a Wooly Aphid, our sales experts Jay Jorns identified it as the Pink Hibiscus Mealybug.

Pink Hibiscus Mealybug.

Recommendations for Treatment: Dominion 2L will protect Hibiscus.  Dominion in the spring by soil injection, punch some holes around plant canopy and fill with spray, is preferred to avoid bee kill.  Bayer has a great product  Core Tech which are balls of plant fertilizer and Imidacloprid, perfect for spring plant fertilization and insect prevention.
