You’ve heard the long-time saying, “Sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite”. It’s become a part of our good night lingo. But come on now, seriously? If there really was an issue of bed bugs in the home, sleeping tight is just about impossible with them biting into us like we’re Thanksgiving dinner. The only ones that will be sleeping tight will be the bedbugs after they’ve had their fill of our yummy sweet blood.

Even though it is starting to get cooler around the country does not mean that bed bugs will just disappear like birds flying south. In fact, a bed bug problem may get even worse during the colder times of the year with our homes being a warm cozy environment for bed bugs to seek shelter and our delicious blood providing plenty of warm comfort food.

Unlike mammals, who hibernate in the winter, bedbugs can withstand the cold and remain active as long as there is a source of food---us. The fact that bed bugs like to hide in furniture like our beds and couches make them largely unaffected by the cold weather.

Science Proves you can’t freeze out Bedbugs

Researchers at the University of Minnesota conducted a study on whether bedbugs can withstand freezing temperatures and froze bedbugs. They found that the bedbugs survived short-term exposure to freezing temperatures as low as -25ºC. What temperature finally did the bedbugs in? Exposure to -16ºC for 80 hours! That’s three and a half days!

Although bedbugs may be more active and prevalent during the warmer summer months, if you have them in your home, it doesn’t matter what season it is or what temperature it is, they are going to be a problem and a difficult one to solve without a solid approach.

How to Get Rid Of Bed Bugs For Good

If you do find that you have bedbugs in your home,  it can be a timely and costly process to get rid of them if you were to hire pest control professionals. That’s why we here at Solutions have the products that the pros use without the price tag of the pro. With our how-to guides and instructional videos, you can be the pro that can make those bedbugs not bite you but bite the dust! We have a thorough how to guide on removing bed bugs yourself here in our knowledge base but we will touch on the basics right here.

First off, you need to do a thorough inspection of your home to ensure that you have an infestation, which you likely will if you are experiencing nightly bites. Checking under your beds and couches and even your clothing is important to see where those little buggers are hiding. You can’t just do a ho-hum look around but search through every nook and cranny of your furniture and belongings for traces of blood, feces or the bed bugs themselves.

Secondly, once the bed bugs are spotted and their hideouts are recognized you have to eliminate the bugs and their eggs. The best way to go about this is by some method of steam cleaning and washing/drying all your clothes to make sure the beg bugs die. This will kill a good number of them but you will still need to use product to eliminate the entire family.

We recommend a combination of insecticide called Flex 10-10 and an Insect Growth Regulator called Gentrol IGR. Flex 10-10 is a proven bed bug killer and you can apply it your furniture and home and all of the hot spots that you detected from your initial inspection. The Insect Growth Regulator will ensure that eggs that have been left behind will not grow into a new generation of bed bugs, eliminating any new onslaughts that’d possibly occur after killing the adult bedbugs.

These products are cost-effective and again, if you were to hire a professional, these products are likely what they would use plus paying them a hefty bill for their labor. Save that money and do it yourself because application is simple and hassle-free.

Solutions guarantees that if you use our product line and follow our recommendations as well as our step-by-step guides detailing how to inspect, control and prevent bed bugs, you’ll become a bed bug killing machine and will never have to worry about them keeping you up at night. And then and only then can you finally sleep soundly and sleep tight, satisfied with the end result..
