How to catch and repel raccoons in your yard

Growing up my grandfather had a pet raccoon that he has rescued with it was a baby. Being hand feed for its early years the raccoon thought of my grandfather as someone special, maybe even the mother. We were allowed to give it an apple as a snack and watch him and his almost humans hands work the apple around in the water bowl and then slowly enjoy the treat. I thought he was cute and wanted him to come live with me, but my grandfather never let us forget that it was a wild animal and not a pet. Eventually he was set free to live back in the wild when it got old enough and that was the last of the pet raccoon.

Now as an adult I have had the pleasure of not such a cute relationship with a raccoon or too, taking up residence in my home garage! It is one thing to see them in the woods quite another to find them early morning hissing up a storm because I surprised the female on your refrigerator In the garage. Now that is a “Stop Drop and Run Movement”. But eventually I was able to trap the female and the couple of juveniles and have them relocated to the woods far, far away.

Racoons can do lots of damage inside if they can get access to insulation, electrical wires and things maybe you have in storage. Not to mention the urine and feces that they can spread all over your attic. Garage, etc. Racoons can be from 18-28 inches and about up to 35 lbs, although I do not think that applies with the new domesticated ones found in suburban settings. They can have usually 3-7 in a litter and 1 litter year! Mostly active at night and the mail can travel up to 20 miles. Main food is meats, fish, pet food, seeds, insects, fruits and vegetables.
