Bactimos Mosquito Dunks- Mosquito Larva Killer
Bactimos Mosquito Dunks- Mosquito Larva Killer
BTI Bactimos Mosquito Dunks are a floating sustained-release larvicide and a natural form of mosquito control. Mosquito Dunks release a bacterium that kills mosquito larvae. 1 dunk can treat up to 100 square feet of surface water.
BTI Mosquito Dunks, manufactured by Summit Chemical, is a slow-release larvicide that conveniently floats right on the water surface to biologically control mosquitoes and psychodid flies.
These mosquito dunks can be used in virtually any standing water site where mosquito larvae grow. As the dunks float, the active ingredient BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis), is slowly released in the water over a period of 30 days or more. The larvae consume this and die before reaching adulthood, putting a stop to the growth of the adult mosquito-biting population.
BTI Mosquito Dunks can even be used to pre-emptively treat dry areas known to flood after rainfall. Use Mosquito Dunks as part of a comprehensive mosquito control program so the entire mosquito life cycle is addressed. Each dunk will treat up to 100 sq. ft. of surface water regardless of depth.
Tools Needed
BTI Mosquito Dunks come ready to use and no tools are needed to apply the product.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how many Mosquito Dunks you will need to apply by measuring the surface area of the target sites you want to treat. To do this, measure (in feet) and multiply the area length times the width (length x width = square footage). 1 dunk can treat up to 100 sq. ft. of surface area, regardless of depth. Dunks can even be broken up to treat smaller areas. Use 1/4 of a dunk to treat 1 to 5 sq. ft., 1/2 a dunk for 5 to 25 sq. ft., and 1 dunk to treat 25 to 100 sq. ft. and beyond.
- Step 2: Open the package and drop the dunk into standing water or potential breeding sites. As they slowly dissolve, they release a bacterium that is toxic to mosquito larvae. For pre-flood treatments, apply the dunks to any dry surface known to flood after rainfall.
- Step 3: Allow a minimum of 48 hours for product to achieve control. After that, the dunks will provide residual control for up to 30 days.
Where to Use
BTI Mosquito Dunks can be used anywhere there is standing water or areas susceptible to accumulating standing water such as: bird baths, old automobile tires, rain barrels, ponds, abandoned or unused swimming pools (particularly above ground types), tree holes, roof gutters for collecting rainwater, flower pots, animal watering troughs, elevator shafts, basements that flood, and any drainage areas within buildings.
When to Use
You can use BTI Mosquito Dunks when there is a mosquito infestation, typically after rainfall. The product can also be used preventatively before rainfall or expected flooding in dry areas that are known to become flooded after rain.
Safety Information
BTI Dunks is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the label. Make sure you stay protected when handling chemicals with proper PPE (gloves, goggles, face mask, etc.)
Special Considerations
Keep in mind that the Mosquito Dunks are only effective at treating mosquito larvae in waterbodies. For faster mosquito control, you will also need to use an adulticide labelled for treating adult mosquitoes.
